Rainy Day Project

I decided to try to make some decorated sugar cubes. I need a lot of practice I see! It was messy but a lot of fun. My icing was too thin so it was runny and it was the first time I tried to use tips to decorate anything (except deviled eggs) so like I said I need more practice! My daughter Jessie decorated some too. Her's turned out better than mine did. We will make up some more icing and try again soon. Probably with Christmas colors for the holidays. This makes a good rainy day project.
Royal Icing Recipe

Ingredients:
3 tablespoons of Meringue Powder
4 cups of sifted powdered sugar
6 tablespoons of water

Directions:
Beat all the ingredients together at low speed for 5 – 7 minutes until icing forms peaks.
I used color gels/paste that I bought at Michael’s Craft Store. I’m sure any cake decorating store will have them too. You will only need to use a tiny amount of coloring to color the icing.

Tips:

Always keep a wet kitchen towel over the icing otherwise it will dry out.

  2. I love those! I have tried my hand at decorating cakes, but I always make a mushy mess:( Maybe I should start small next time?
